Are there any alchemists in the city?

There is a stone - well, a couple of stones, really - that I need to destroy, and let's just say normal methods won't work.

I'll provide further details if I can find someone with the knowledge I need.

soma cruz, nana

Alchemists? What are those?

[Nana knows she could break stones EASILY with her power, but she hesitates, stopping herself from saying how she could break things. Aside from Urd, Genie, and Aladdin to which she knows won't take advantage of her--she has to stay a good girl for Papa and keep that a secret from most.]

People who use a form of chemistry and Hermetic mysticism to achieve results that are beyond the scope of normal science. Where I'm from, the tradition was nearly dead, and I couldn't find anyone who could tell me what I needed to know. I'm hoping to have better luck here.

Chemistry? Herm...Hermatic? [What...? Cannot begin to understand some of the words he uses.]

Maybe I could ask my friends. I'm sure they would know a lot more than I do about that.

Don't let it get to you if you don't know the words. Not many people do, anymore. Chemistry is a type of science, where you mix chemicals together to create other chemicals. Hermeticism is a type of magic based on math and some other things. I don't know too many of the particulars, myself.

And what are chemicals and magic like? [Does Papa know such things, she wonders?]

Chemicals are what make up the world. I'd show you a picture of the periodic table, but it'd look about as arcane as anything in a book of magic at this point, I suspect. The elements are what make up everything in the world - sand, air, water, and everything in between. Those elements mix to make molecules, which are a type of chemical. All of this takes place on a scale so small you can't see it with your bare eyes, or even with a magnifying glass. You need a really strong microscope to see it.

Magic basically ignores all of that and lets a person remake the world around them as they see fit.

[Marveling;] Wow. Chemicals could be anything, anywhere? The fake stuff too?

Oh!! I think my friend Urd could do that! Magic, I mean! She can change things around her, can turn into smaller versions of herself and turn back, and made this pretty lady appear by her and then she disappeared...

Chemicals are -everything-. Except maybe energy, we're still not quite sure about that one.

That certainly sounds like magic. And since you're talking about Urd, I'd bet it is. I only know her by reputation and legends, though.

Energy? [Another new word? Yes.]

[She's surprised at herself, being able to understand the concept of magic so fast.] Yeah! And I've really seen her do all those things.

[Excitement and giddiness on the rise~] I should meet Genie soon, and Urd's sister Belldandy too. I think they can do magic too! Urd went out to look for them, so they will know I'm going to stay with them, at least until Papa gets here.

Hey. You're really smart, Mister! My name's Nana. What's yours?

Yeah, energy. Electricity and most types of radiation, magnetism, those are all types of energy.

Sounds like quite the household you've landed in, Nana. I hope everything goes well for you. [Urd? Belldandy? Those names are starting to ring bells... Also, not going to tell her that her Papa may not ever show up here.]

I'm just smart enough to understand that there's a lot I don't know. My name's Soma.

[And that whole explanation just flies over her. The rest of what he says catches her attention better.]

Thank you, Soma! I'll be sure to let Urd know about your stones! Maybe she could help somehow. [She doesn't bother to ask why he needs them to be destroyed. She just understands that they give Soma some trouble.]

There's a lot I don't know either, so I try to learn as much as I can.

You're welcome, Nana. And that's something you always need to do. Never stop learning, no matter how much you know.

All right, I'll keep learning!
