This is hardly my Wonderland… or is it? It’s so different than what I remember. But Dr. Bumby says that change is good, so I suppose I ought to leave it. Still, if this were Wonderland, wouldn’t the Cat be here to greet me? He never misses a trick, or an opportunity to tease. I wonder if perhaps all cats aren’t like that, but I'm getting ahead of

And who are you?

Who am I? Dear child, did you forget so soon?
It is I, the Mad Hatter? Really, my my you're more forgetful than a Elephant.

[Alice's tone turns decidedly cool]
You don't sound much like the Mad Hatter to me. And elephants don't forget. And if you are the Hatter, have you forgotten that you tried to kill me the last time I was in Wonderland?

Have you got the right Hatter? Or the right head? Or the right memory?
I'm pretty sure I would never do that!

[at Hatter's query, she sounds startled, off-guard and unsure]
I... I don't know. I've hardly been in my right mind for a long time.

...
I know you have claimed I was not in the right mind but you...?
... Alice? What has happened?

[decidedly not mentioning the fire, thank you ever so much]

The Jabberwocky? ... [Gives a gasp.]
You mean he is back? I thought for sure that boy with the vorpal sword had done him in!

No... no. I killed him myself, I'm sure of it. But the vorpal knife... where is it? If this were Wonderland, surely the blade would have found me by now.
Where are we?

And a home is not an asylum by any means at all!
... You did? Well thank goodness for that, we won't have to worry about him running around then.
Unfortunately my dear, we are not in Wonderland. Otherwise I would be sure the March Hare and Dormouse would have found me by now. We are in Paixao, a place of painted walls and dull blondes as far as the eye can see.

No. I don't think it possible to make an asylum of any kind into a home, but I don't have a home, only a room in Houndsditch.
Yes. He's gone. [said quite firmly, as though repeating it can keep him and his awful memory away]
Paixao... what an odd name. And you're so different from what I remember. You even sound different. AM I hallucinating? Have I gone mad again?

Yes, you don't know how many pies that came about because of the name. I must always have pie now with my tea. Last time I had an Orange pie because of the sunny day we had.
[Giggles a bit.]
You sound a bit different yourself, but I wouldn't worry so. I still believe you to be my friend that I have remembered. And that's all that matters I do believe, right?

Must you? I prefer cake with mine. Mind you, it's been a good while since I've had a decent cup of tea.
[Well, look at that. A bit of warmth creeps into her voice]
I suppose it's the thought that counts. Whatever the reason, I'm glad to hear from you in such a manner.

What? But there is no cake in Paixao! IT IS A LIE!!
... Or is it?... YES. YES IT IS!! Unless we make it real, YES WE SHALL MAKE THE CAKE REAL AND BAKE IT IN THE OVEN!
It is official, we must make cake Alice!
