Storytelling

Today was my first day at my new job. I work the art club after school with 14 elementary students-- from age 6 to 13. Today I decided to get to know the kids, and keep things pretty low key.

The First thing on the agenda was to discuss art. So I asked them "What is or is not Art?" - to which I got some amazingly creative answers. My favorite being "Art is using colorful stuff to make something" Then I taught my younger students about Roy G. Biv and showed the older students how storytelling is an "art form". My favorite part is all the projects I get to bring home. Today: three crayon rainbows, and a story two girls worked on together.

Once upon a time there was a yellow hippopatumus named Poppy. Her nick name was Pop and everyone calls her it. Pop swam with noisy chickens every day. That was really funny to people. Soon People called National Geographic and Pop was famous! And then Pop lives the famous life for the rest of her life. The end.
