Plane to Buenos Aires at Sunset Originally uploaded by
blmurch. With the help of friends and family we tied up our loose ends in California and returned to Buenos Aires this past week. Our flight from San Francisco to Miami at 7:05 on Sunday morning was canceled, which we found out about after we got to the airport. There just wasn't a plane available. Ooops. So, luckily, we were rebooked onto a flight to Miami via St. Louis that left at 7:30 and arrived around 17:30 a couple of hours later than our earlier direct flight would have gotten us in. For once I was happy that we originally had such a long layover (six hours) before our flight to Buenos Aires. We touched down in Miami and both "visited" Florida for the first time. As we were getting our boarding passes for our final leg of our trip, the sunset was turning the sky all sorts of gorgeous colors. I left Kragen at the counter and snapped up some photos through the glass. We made some final calls on our AT&T cell phone and then left the country.
The flight wasn't horrible, per se, but it wasn't the best either. We were in the very back row, so the seats didn't recline very much. I was able to get some sleep, but also messed around on my computer for a long while, catching up on reading things I had downloaded before we left. The last hour was incredibly turbulent, so much so that the flight attendants who were trying to serve breakfast and drinks had to keep on running back to the back of the plane to sit down. I was squeezing Kragen's hand for comfort and he was grinning like a kid on a roller coaster. At one point he even cheered "wheeeee". We did arrive safely though and made it through immigration and customs without any problems. We took an airporter bus to Buenos Aires and then a taxi to our hostel in San Telmo. We stayed again at
Hostel Tanguera.
We were greeted warmly by Oscar and his wife Laura and stayed there through Thursday as we looked for a short-term apartment. We ended up renting an apartment that we were in in Dec-Jan in Recoletta, which is one of the most expensive areas in town. The apartment is a small one bedroom, but it's nice and it's $600/month. I have
photos from when we stayed there last time. It's small, but it's familiar. This will give us time to look for a two bedroom apartment so that we can accommodate guests. Please do let us know when you are coming and I'll
put it on the calendar! :D We already have people coming to visit during Thanksgiving and the week between Christmas and New Years.
It's good to be back and it's scary at the same time. When I get homesick for Bolinas, I can just watch this great
video of surfers in Bo!
