brain Dump

I feel like I'm leaving the country at just the right time. I feel like there's going to be a WWIII over these comics. Huge wars have strange, "small" starts. Troy was over a woman, WWI was over a shooting, you get the idea. I wonder what it will be like to come back to...

I am overwhelmed with the things I need to do to get ready. Our countdown has definitely begun. (Two months)!!! I've started by making a list, but I just know that I'm going to forget things. But, I also know that I can add things to it as well, so that's okay. I was blocked on making the list because I was worried about how big it will be and that I will forget to do things. Generally it comes down to plan things, cull things, cancel things, pack things, store things, sell things, and buy things (like airline tickets). Just all sorts of different "things". Can you suggest things I might need to be doing? I did buy a crapload of plastic boxes at Costco so that we can store our stuff well when we leave. And we got a bunch of boxes from linley & eqe from their recent move. Wow - rereading that entry gave me the date of my computer drop off. I went by tonight to pick it up finally, but the hard drive wasn't happy when they guy started it, so they're going to swap it out for another one and give it to me tomorrow instead. Anyways, we're going to pack up a couple of book cases this week so that linley and eqe can take them off our hands and put them to good use in their new place.

Things are going well at work. I'm interviewing people to find my replacement and it is looking good so far. I hope to be wrapped up with this process in two-three weeks so that I can start training the new person and transferring my brain to them. I want to give whoever gets the job as much back history as possible so that they understand what's going on. I got some of that, but I think more is better. I also told BK that I want to leave mid-April instead of at the end of April because I need more time to get all my personal stuff wrapped up. He wasn't happy, but he agreed that it made sense after I told him I need more time to get my shit in order, and that we're making progress with the search for a new Exec Asst.

Another cool thing that happened today is that I took a two hour lunch and got to go on a VIP tour of the Letterman Digital Arts Center with friends and family. Our hosts were Catherine Craig and Peter (d'oh can't remember his last name) and they graciously and generously gave us a grand tour. I wasn't able to take any photos of the place - they had me read and sign a sort of NDA before I could even get in there. They also made RFID tags for each guest. Wild I tell yeah. The "cafeteria" is amazing and reminds me *very* much of Willamette's commissary. The views are jaw dropping-ly stunning, the food was great and we had a wonderful time. Being there and seeing it in all its glory made me think of Starfleet headquarters in Star Trek IV (I think? & I'm sure y'all will correct me if I'm wrong). It was so modern, and gorgeous and in the right location - the Presidio of San Francisco with breathtaking views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the Palace of Fine Arts. On the downside, I stupidly forgot to coordinate with bonniegrrl, d'oh!
