So, I was just reading about this virus that affects Microsoft computers on the net and thought I should let people know about the latest threat so you can protect yourself if necessary. I first heard about it
here on
ghosthacked's post. If you're using a Mac or some other variant of Unix, then there's not much to worry about here, but you might still want to pass this message onto family members who don't know any better and use Microsoft.
http://isc.sans.org/diary.php?storyid=1067This is a summary about "blackworm" virus that is spreading itself via email and then is set to actually *delete* files on February 3rd. Yikes!!! I know that not all of us use Microsoft, but for those computers, you should be prepared and make sure that all computers are as patched as they can be, with anti-virus software and backups.
I would also warn family members to create recent backups if they haven't done so. To read more peruse
Google here. I just sent this to everyone in my personal "previous recipients" contact database. Let's see how many people a- write back b-get mad at me for sending spam & c- bounce. I had trouble sending it - I had to use my work smtp server - meer.net's refused to send it. They probably thought it was spam. it's been trying to send for the last 15 minutes - I don't think it's going to happen.... It seems to have sent! I've gotten 11 bounces so far. =P One bounce came from and I swear I read that as "eviladmin" and thought that someone at San Mateo Gov Systems had a sense of humor.
