I just realized what today is and I sure have some feeling about it to share. I don't mean that I want to devote it to traditional pranks and jokes, but to recognize a discrepancy on the modern calendar that does not line up with my biological idea of "New Year"
I am sure there were numerous excuses to switch from the Julian to the Gregorian calender, however I just can't say I get the "feel" for it. January 1, the new year on our current calendar speaks little of anything "new" to me. Its is a time of nature's hibernation WAITING for a time of renewal and growth. and around this time it displays it's new year with a show that pales any fireworks I have ever seen.
So, I will declare myself an April fool this year, as the term referred to people of tradition (and common sense if you ask me) that refused to switch to the Gregorian calendar and celebrated New Years on April 1 because "it felt right".
Plus think, you don't have to kiss anyone at the height of the contagious disease season, yet another plus.
Happy New Year to all!
