You reach out for his hand, calm (only your racing heartbeat betrays you) and careful; he turns towards you in the fading light. There were so many words racing through your thoughts - admissions, promises, hopes, pleas - but with his eyes looking straight into yours, all the words run dry.
“I -" You’re not sure why this is so difficult - you’ve held hands before, of course you’ve talked before, but something is different today. Maybe it’s the way he’s looking at you; desperate for reassurance of something (what, you want to know, but you can’t - can’t see inside his soul) or the sudden rush of heat in your fingers when they brush his.
You’ve buried the words you wanted to say so long; the fierce urges to choke out words you only know from romance movies, or to press yourself against him and feel every inch of that warm body. You can’t ignore the pull between the two of you - a force of gravity impossible to fight (and you tried to, tooth and nail, long ago).
He’s still staring at you; the first hints of impatience furrowing his brow. You wonder how long you’ve been standing here, holding onto him with everything you have and saying nothing. You force out the only words that cooperate, “Hey, I - I’m having trouble with this script, can you listen to my read through?”
He agrees, complains about your workaholic tendencies. You thank him, and smile - and don’t let go of that impossibly warm hand. “Heechul,” You say, grin stretching, “how would I live without you?”
And you hope he understands you can’t.
