Reflections

I have a bit of randomness to share. For a couple years, back about a decade ago, my dad lived in this little town in Northern Virginia. It was while visiting him in the summer of 2000 that "paintisevil" was born. We spent a solid few days painting his whole house in preparation for selling it and 13-year-old me hated that like I can't even tell you. I dubbed painting evil, the work of the devil. Now, this was back in the day when everyone was on AIM, and I made the screen name "paintisevil" just as a joke to message my best friend - I already had a different account, this was just a spoof one.

But then somehow it stuck. I think it was probably mostly because when I ventured out and made my own email account, away from the umbrella of my parents AOL account, this was the name I chose. Soon it became my online alter-ego - I used it for everything for close to 6 years. You'll get more Google hits for paintisevil that you will for my real name hah. Once I started college, poor paintisevil sort of faded into the background. I got a more grown-up sounding email account and stopped having the time to be as active in my fandoms. These days, this journal is mostly dead.

So the amusing thing is this: Back in 06 my dad moved back to that same town in VA, then last year I moved in with him. We live in a different area of town so I don't think about it much, but really, I spent a lot of time just down the street. This city is where paintisevil first made its appearance. I've found it kind of ironic to keep using this sn when my preferred media has become watercolors. And then there was this weekend, where for the first time in years I was forced to paint walls. I dreaded it, but you know what? It really wasn't terrible at all. I didn't get any splatter on the floor or my clothes, though I did manage to get a little on my skin. And my painted walls? They look freaking sweet, if I do say so myself. My walls by my desk are now magnetic chalkboards. It makes me giddy like I'm a kid rather than in my mid-twenties lol.

But yeah, this was just me getting all nostalgic hah.
