Two major incidences of poor service in less than one week, and I'm not a bitch-shopper, so no dramamama moments, making a mountain out of a molehill, creating a storm in a teacup or whatever whatnot ( Read more... )

Good service, Bad service? anonymous July 13 2006, 15:20:28 UTC
Yes, it really spoils your happy day of outing when you're having a day of leisure, having bad encounters with service providers.

But what is really good service? And what is bad service? It is a very subjective matter. Many a times I've seen so many people, hehe..very usual of us fellow Singaporeans, screaming 'I want to COMPLAIN!' when they can't get they way or caught in a situation which they do not like. It seems that that is the only way they react, venting their frustions on the unfortunate front-liners. Perhaps, this is also one way of showing their superiority and the out-dated mind-set that 'customer's always right'. Perhaps a very convenient face-saving tactic as well when being 'rejected' in a certain manner.

I'm not say that there are no poor service providers in Singapore. There are those that have applied the wrong post in the first place, or Human Resource 'mak chew ta stamp'( eyes covered by stamps )! However, at times it is good to reflect on our actions before judging others. It is not easy to be in a position when you have to smile and be polite all day even if a potential customer ask 'silly' questions. I love to look at the cute HaHa Crabs at Junction 8, I can stand for hours, quietly observing their silly antics..However..I do so during the 'off-peak' hours, as not to 'get in the way' of the uncles that run the store. Occasionally, I heard of teen-agers standing there making comments like 'ey, buy one, grow big already can cook and eat!', or asking the uncles, 'will die or not?'; come on, they are living things!! Worse still, one occasion, I've seen a child though asked not to carry the crabs, grabbed one and throw the poor little fellow down,of another, an adult man, brought his wife and child to view the crabs, threw sand right onto the resting crabs! What do you SUPPOSE the vendors should REACT? Put up with the CRAP? I think these people adults, teenagers, children(parents should be accountable) should know what is RESPECT!

Respect is a very mutual thing which all fellow human beings should know..yes, we all want good service, people that are willing to serve and make us feel good when we are making a purchase or considering to make one..But do keep in mind that in the process, do not have the idea we as the consumer is the superior one where all sales people/service provider have to give in to our every whims and fancy in order to see the stack of thick fat cash from our wallets ending up in their cash register.'Customer's always right' is outdated! Yes,good service with a smile, and sincerity goes a long way, but please do not forget the respect we give to others on the otherhand. This is a food for thought..
