Yeah, but a man in a pokla dot dress who just got up from bed and is having a cigerette?! Heh! We'll see how it goes, I want to see the photo and talk to the "customer" before I agree. Plus, I paint men horribly! And anyway, on the bright-side, at least for now, I have been painting again this last 3 weeks :) Whether or not I sell or do contracted projects, what is important is that I continue painting and honing my skill.
Yeah. Painting something new and different is right! :) And you're also right, the only thing I might lose would be the time invested in painting the piece and possibly my pride if it is rejected ;) We'll see how it goes! I actually have been painting again these last few weeks but they are the standard types of paintings I usually do. I have also been toying with some other ideas but time has been scarce to work on these ideas.

I still have that painting, of course, and it hangs in my living room to this day (a fact bhinque, falkor_the_trol, jakeaidan and others could verify). I love the painting and always have. It's beautiful in its own right, haunting, bold. It reminds me gently of my past and it reminds me of you, something that never fails to make me smile. Thank you for letting me keep that piece of you.
Though this post is ancient history, I can't help adding my $0.02. Paint what you want, when you want. Make it worth your while, whatever that is (money, subject, experience, challenge, etc). As for "can't charge much" I say bollocks. Charge an amount you'd feel okay about parting with the work for; it's your work after all. If the work is commissioned, make sure you're going to get what you want up front.
Okay *stepping down, kicking aside soapbox*. My best wishes.
