Last night Kitty, Layla, Anna, et moi finally went out to C-Street for the first time. For those of you not local to the area, Chester Street is Champaign-Urbana's only gay bar where actually only about a third of the people who go there are gay. I don't think we even have enough uncloseted homosexuals of the age to go out partying here to fill up a whole bar. Anyway, we had the impression it might actually be kind of like a club, but it was definitely just a...bar. Where you...sit. Apparently there's nowhere in town to dance. Unless they have a dance floor at Lava, but Lava is a prestigiously lousy night club and I don't even really know why. :/ So we went in, sat down, I picked some Queen and Heart and a song from Moulin Rouge to play on the juke box, I went to the ladies room and almost broke the door trying to push it in the wrong way, and then we sat around playing 20 questions and feeling sorry for a guy who was sitting all by himself at the bar. After "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" was finished playing we decided to go buy some unhealthy things to eat and spent a good eight minutes laughing at the really cute kids' books at Schnucks before I realized the hilarity of this and said, "Look, we're having more fun at a fucking grocery store than at a bar."
Kitty bought a really funny book for Garrick and texted him a message saying "I bought you something," and since he knew we had been out at C-Street he texted back, "Is it a dildo?" as if they would sell them there or something. So just jokingly I said, "Oh yeah, tell him they sell them in vending machines there and you got him a double-ended one." And she actually said that, and he just said back, "You're gross." LMAO.
I got up kind of early for me today thanks to monstrous pains which would be TMI to name more specifically, but you probably unfortunately get the picture in technicolor. I only left the house for about twenty minutes but I feel like it was a pretty productive day. I actually wore myself out writing for a long time and am seriously sick of it for the time being. I don't even know if I like this fic I've been working on much. There are two other Queer As Folk fics I have ideas for and I'm just a lot more excited about them and have more confidence that they're good ideas. But I need to read Peter Pan as kind of research for one of them before I can start it, because I'm writing about how two characters became friends in college and the origin of them liking to call each other Peter and Wendy and I want to have references directly from the text that fit thematically with their story. Plus, that's one of several classic children's stories I've always wanted to read.
Speaking of which, I was at Borders the other day and they have these nice-looking new editions of a bunch of different classics for only about $7.00 each, which is really pretty cheap for a pretty-looking book, and I'm really tempted to buy a lot of them to read eventually. My Philosophy class is so dreadfully boring, not necessarily because of what we learn about but because the teacher reads all of his lectures directly out of the book we all have, so I think I'm going to be reading under the table a lot in there. So, I wonder if Victor Hugo would be much less boring...
