I love the
New Vintage Wardrobe Flickr pool. After spending six months gazing longingly at other people's projects, I bit the bullet, bought a
old shirtdress pattern off etsy (copyright1969) and drove out to my mom's house to spend my entire day off hunched over a sewing machine.
My mom told me to use some of her stash fabric instead of buying muslin for my test-run, so I ended up cutting up the tablecloth-turned-dropcloth she made in 1972. I have been eyeing this fabric for at least ten years, but unsure of what kind of project it deserved. There are a few paint splotches, but I think overall it's nice enough to wear in public/to work. I think this dress officially heralds the return of Lucy-making-bizarre-and-not-necessarily-flattering-clothing-choices. You see, I used to work at a thrift store. And while I have been dressing relatively conservatively for the past x years, ever since the great wardrobe purge of '02, I really do miss my weird old dresses and skirts. I do not, however, miss my large collection of polyester double-knit shirts. I have seen the light! Natural fibers from here on out!

Miraculously, I just "happened to have on hand" a matching zipper of the correct length for this pattern. I know that I have had absolutely no inkling that this item would ever actually be useful to me, and yet I brought it home and HELD ON TO IT for nearly ten years, even as I got rid on various other strangely colored zippers that I knew I was NEVER GOING TO USE.

I am popping my collar in this picture to show how insanely cool I am I cleverly hid the paint stain where it will not be seen.
