Last Night's Show

I went to see Bo Beddingfield and the Wydells, and the Drive-by Truckers last night for the annual Nuci's Space benefit concert, and it was freaking fabulous.

First off, Chris and I were up front, against the stage the whole time.

Bo Beddingfield and the Wydells opened the show up marvelously. Bo walked around the crowd for a little while before going on stage, and after the concert. At one point he was close enough to me that I could have bumped into him. This isn't an explanation of dorking out so much as when he was that close, I really got the effect of how tall this dude was. It was intense. Anyway, they were amazing.

Then this band called Don Chambers and Goat came on after The Wydells, and they were really interestingly badass. They had a drummer, a guitarist, a bassist, some dude with a ladder that had hubcaps and trashcan lids attatched to it, and the lead singer played banjo and guitar. It was like...fucking rock and roll banjo playing. It was delightful.

Then The Truckers played and that was just awesome as all get out. Patterson Hood(lead vocals/guitar) played guitar IN MY FACE. John Neff(lapsteel/guitar) played guitar IN MY FACE. My face was rocked off. Shonna Tucker(their bassist/backup vocals ) sang a couple of songs on her own, oh my GOD did she sing. She's just so amazingly awesome and beautiful and adorable that I wish I could just put her in my pocket. She never sings so it was a big deal. Everyone flipped out. It was pretty fantastic and my soul melted.

When they left the stage telling everyone good night, they did their usual "We're going to hide backstage for 10 minutes while everyone chants our name, and then, we're going to come out and play the encore that we already have planned out." They came back on and everyone was really drunk and started throwing shit on the stage and hit Mike Cooley(one of their guitarists/vocalists). Mike grabbed the mic(haha) and threatened to come down and whoop some ass if they didn't stop. It was great.

THEN when they finally were leaving. Something fucking....AWESOME happened.

They came to the edge of the stage and reached out shaking hands.

I shook John Neff(Lapsteel/guitar), Mike Cooley, and Shonna Tucker's(<3) hands.

And then Chris made fun of me for staring blankly like I was in shock from what happened. But whatever he's a dump.

anyway that was my night last night. And Tomorrow, I'm probably going to see them again, because they're playing again. I'm excited.
