Got up early this morning and put the second coat of tan paint on Robert's room. Laundry, dishes, walked the dog, put clean sheets on all the beds, then made Robert help me clean up the horrible mess stashed in his closet, behind his dresser, and under his bed. Found the source of 'the smell' (Ew!) that's been apparent in one corner of his room: a forgotten sandwich in the old school backpack we replaced when the zipper broke. Since the zipper broke back in, oh, March...
That was one grody sandwich.
In the afternoon we went to visit friends who had promised me supplies for the oven--empty beer bottles for the insulation layer, and clay to supplement the building dirt. As Bob put it, "Too much clay and not enough bottles." Must have brought home one hundred pounds of clay. It is all dried out and would need substantial reworking to be used for pottery--which is why my friend was so eager to give it to me. I intend to have the boys break it up into powder with the sledgehammer tomorrow. Fun times for them.
On the way back we stopped at Super Target and bought a much-needed book case for Robert's room. I have been looking for either a book case or a dresser for about a year; none of the yard sales or thrift stores I've been to have had anything that would work, so it's an el cheapo plastic laminate over fiberboard book case for him. I put it together this evening when we got home.
We also stopped at a Lowe's and got another quart of red paint to finish off the red walls in Robert's room. It was good to be able to fit in some errands along the way; the Lowe's in town is nowhere near anywhere else I want to be.
I can't wait to get the painting done and put the room back together.
