Like popping open old champagne

I had nothing better to do with my time than work or play WoW. The usual score. She called me up, begging to go with my brother to a show. Had I known earlier, I'd have bought tickets either way. But free is always the best price. It's been a year or so since the last time I've seen Covenant live. The only thing I knew was that Imperative Reaction was opening. Not a huge fan. They're really just filler. The bread before the meat.

I thought I knew what to expect. A boring pre-performance before Covenant. Then this band named Rotersand shows up and gets people dancing their tits off. Not your typical German stomp music. Very smooth and synthy. Some of the best guitar work I've seen in industrial for some time. I was impressed by the lead singer climbing out into the crowd, moving with people, getting them interested. It's something that you just don't see in large shows. A personal element that reminds you that the musician isn't a saint or a deity. They're people that want to entertain you. Make you think. Make you dance. Make you have a good time. And Rotersand did very well at this, especially for their first American tour. I'll gladly see them again.

Where have all of the good musicians gone? I remember weekend shows with five or six bands that only cost $20 to get into. Now they're only in the middle of the week with maybe half the number of bands. Somebody requested industrial on Q101 and the DJ played Gravity Kills. Gravity fucking Kills. I wish I could just eat up all of the shit on the radio with a big fucking spoon and say the I enjoyed it. But it's all so similar. All so terrible.
