"Pop rocks and coke?" Sam repeated, looking at Dean like that was so not funny on so many different levels and would he please just get to the case.
Dean grinned at him. "No joke man, this kid died after eating some."
Sam snorted, thoughts immediately falling to Ava Wilson, before she decided to go to bat for evil. Once when I was a kid, I ate like eight packs of pop rocks and drank a whole can of coke afterwards... "You don't think it was a suicide attempt, do you?"
Dean's spoon stilled over his bowl of Life cereal, ironic, all things considered. Sam's face was painfully straight though, a hint a questioning and just the right amount of curiosity for Dean to believe him. He had no resistance to Sam's pathetic puppy dog face, zero.
Sam sighed softly, and rested his elbows on his knees, settling his chin in his hands. "Do you think maybe Ava could have been different?" he asked, not looking up because he Dean would be both caught off guard by the question and annoyed with it.
"Dude," he said, flicking a cereal square at his younger brother. "She said weird shit like 'hullaballo' and 'taupe'. Who says taupe? Is that even a real color?"
Laughing, Sam covered him face with his hands. Only Dean could maintain someone's position on the scale of good and evil by 'hullaballo' and 'taupe'.
