Hi everyone,
My friend is a public school teacher here in NYC. She teaches literature, English, and drama at a school with lots of students from multiple countries and unfortunately a very low budget for teachers and projects. Last year she taught her students about The Diary of Anne Frank and was so moved by how much her students responded to the book and Anne's story. She found that they related to this book more than the other books she had chosen and it quickly became a favorite with the class.
"What's Anne gonna do next?! what's going to happen to her today?!"
She was so encouraged by their discussions and emotional connection with the book. Many of her students are from Rwanda and other areas of the world where people are forced to leave due to political situations such as genocide. Though it is not the same situation she feels that this story resonates with them on a personal level.
Her goal is to raise money for enough books for this next year's class and also for lined notebooks so her students can keep a diary of their own and journal their thoughts to help with their writing skills.
She has since spoken to a Holocaust survivor and most recently visited the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam this summer to enrich her lesson plan.
I am very proud of her.
If you found that this book was important to you or if you just want to help out a NYC public school class you can donate here! I believe you can donate as low as one dollar and donations are tax deductable

Thanks NYC for listening!
