We put Nugget down this morning... she was so sick, she had bone cancer in her back leg and wasn't even using it anymore, and had already gone deaf and blind and she was just a mess.
We've had Nugget since I was about 4... I can't even remember what it was like not to have a dog, actually. I am happy that she's no longer in pain, but I still will really miss her.
I just wanted to write a little bit about my memories with her to kind of, augment my memory of her.
Once, in first or second grade, I wrote a story about how Nugget saved me from a snake, and I drew pictures with it and everything. And I'm pretty sure it was a true story. I was playing outside in one of those little playskool slide playsets with the slide attached to it. And Nugget was standing by the playset barking at it and I went down the slide, and a snake slid down after me, and as soon as it hit the ground, Nugget grabbed it in her mouth and bit it in half. So she saved me from a snake! Haha, Nugget wasn't a vicious dog by any means, but when you needed her to be by your side and to protect you, she was there for you. I also remember when we would take her into the woods and then swim with her in the lake, she loved going into the water.
I will miss you Nugget. You were a fantastic, sweet, and kindhearted dog.
