Matadero Creek
Here are some pics from Monday's visit to Matadero Creek, sitting quietly next to the creek to watch the birds and clouds and not think about anything in particular for a while.
A view from the trail of the dry part of the marsh (part of the flood control basin) opposite the creek.
Spiky thistles are ouchie.
Oak galls are produced by tiny oak gall wasps, who lay their eggs in the tissues of certain species of oak. Larger galls are sometimes called oak apples.
When the gall ripens, birds and squirrels eat the soft tissues. The gall turns brown and falls off the tree after the adult wasp emerges.
