Long Ridge Return
Here are some pics from a return visit to Peters Creek at
Long Ridge Open Space Preserve on Monday.
The trailhead begins in grasslands and moves quickly down to the forested area by the creek.
On the way toward the woods we see California poppies, yarrow, mariposa lily and clarkia.
The canopy over the creek.
Dappled afternoon light fills the silent woods.
A sword ferns grows from a mossy rock in a dry patch of the creek bed.
On the way back a wild turkey browses in the grasses for grass seeds and insects.
The flower bud of a gumplant, which the local Native Americans used for various medicinal purposes.
Heading back up the trail.
