Bair Island

On Sunday, D. and I went to Bair Island Ecological Reserve.  We hadn't been there in four years, since they began the process of converting the old salt ponds to tidal marshland.  The previous forbidding, tumbleweed-strewn moonscapes were gone and natural habitats were emerging, full of wildlife and native vegetation.  Here are some of the pics I took (few, because the trail was very short and the weather wasn't all that great).

Smith Slough separates Inner Bair Island from Middle Bair Island.

California buckwheat, with a bee visitor.

Black-tailed jackrabbit.

Oh hai.

Dried pods.
