Heron's Head Park

On Saturday, after doing an errand in San Francisco, D. and I spent some time at Heron's Head Park, and here are some of the pics I took.

California poppies are still furled from the rain showers that moved through earlier in the day.

Perched on a rock, a snowy egret shows off its bright yellow feet.

A wonky pier in Lash Lighter Basin has almost completely collapsed into the water.

A gull sits on a broken light fixture.

The stony beach on the north side of the park at low tide.

A cormorant dries its wings on a submerged part of the wonky pier.

The view across the salt marsh and India Basin toward Hunter's Point.

Gull on rock.

The trail curves toward San Francisco Bay.

An American wigeon feeds in Lash Lighter Basin.

The Wisdom Marine Lines bulk carrier Amis Glory is bound for Los Angeles.

A black oystercatcher has caught a small fish.

Black oystercatchers are year-round residents along the Pacific coast and eat mostly mollusks and other marine creatures.

White ceanothus in bloom.
