Golden Gate Park
On Sunday, after doing an errand in San Francisco, D. and I wandered around the eastern end of Golden Gate Park from the oak woodlands to the De Young Museum for a while before having dinner in the city and then returning home. Here are some of the pics I took.
A very confused cherry tree has decided to come into bloom.
A California oak moth, whose larvae feed on the leaves of coast live oaks, rests on the side of the path.
An unidentified fleur.
The spires of nearby St. Ignatius church are visible through a break in the trees.
The distinctive tower of the De Young Museum.
A lion statue outside the De Young survived the 1906 earthquake and fire.
One of the sphinxes guarding the entrance to the museum is part of a pair which are replacements of the original two that disappeared sometime after the 1906 earthquake.
A pirate statue by Peter Coffin is supposed to represent a timeless anti-hero who defies the status quo and eschews the conventions of bourgeois society. The statue has two peg-legs, two hook hands and two eye patches (!).
The Pool of Enchantment is full of water lilies.
