I'm back.....

Actually, I've never left. I just haven't made a post of my own in awhile.......

So, pretty much an entire semester, my final semester at Georgia Southern, has gone by since I've posted anything of merit. So, where to begin......

I should start before the semester really- At our last PMA meeting of the fall semester, I resigned from my office of Music Director. I knew that with all the traveling and auditions I could not adequately fulfill all my duties. Justin Graves took my place......

Well, the first week of the semester, I met a girl named Katie at a party my apartment threw. We hit it off really well at first, and ended up dating for most of the semester......

I was given the biggest accompanying load I've ever had. 8 vocalists, 3 of them leveling, several instrumentalists for GSR's (Student recitals) and a tuba recital. Plus, I had to accompany 12 juries. I had so much music, I had to get an additional binder to fit it all. One of the highlights for me was the entire Vaughn-Williams cycle "Songs of Travel."

The day after my 24th birthday I flew up to Seattle and auditioned at the University of Washington. I did not get accepted, however the trip was a blast!! Andrew showed me the sites and I tried some local cuisine- all in all Seattle is one of the coolest cities I've ever seen.....

The next big thing was the Mozart competition. I was selected as one of six finalists to compete in Atlanta for a scholarship to attend the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria this summer. However, I did not win. Still, the trip was fun, and I got to see more of Atlanta which is also a very fun city, if you know which parts to avoid......

Shortly after was my audition at the University of Kentucky. I stayed with Aaron Morris, the first PMA brother I met at Georgia Southern. He and Jeremy picked me up from the airport when I first arrived to GSU and now he's at UK working on a Masters in Physics. Lexington was a fun city, however I do enjoy Seattle more.....

So, amidst all this, there were honors recitals, voice studios, student recitals, etc etc.....

then my Masters Recital took place on April 10th. Here is what I performed:
Bach- Capriccio in B Flat major, "On the Departure of his
Beloved Brother," BWV 992
Mozart- Fantasie in C minor, K. 475
Debussy- Images, Book I
Beethoven- Sonata in E major, Op. 109

...in that order. I decided to end with the Beethoven since its very introspective, sentimental and nostalgic. The Chopin Ballade in F minor just wasn't quite ready yet. I'm completing it now, hopefully I'll perform it on my next recital.

Those are the major events that occurred this semester. I hope I haven't forgotten anything. Aside from that, my semester was spent in a practice room, rehearsing, practicing, papers, hanging out with friends, etc.

On a personal note, I've learned alot about friendships and relationships in general these last few months. The depressing truth I've discovered is this- no matter how many, or how great or close your friends are, you always end up alone in the end. I can't think of a single person who always enjoys being alone, but there's a point when everyone lets you down, or you let them down, and you're left alone. Its worst when its someone you'd never expect, and they pretty much abandon their old friends and just act like they never existed....

So I guess that means the saying is true- everyone dies alone.........

how sad is that......
