Looks pretty ordinary, huh?

Pat is by far the coolest woman who works there, I think she's around 86 or 87 and is the hardest worker in the shop. You try to make her sit down and have a cup of tea, and she'll vacuum the shop instead. She used to run a pub, and is totally awesome.

She has great stories, and one of my favourites is about this jug. During the war, when London was being bombed to smithereens, everyone's china was blown to bits as well. So Pat's grandmother saw in the paper that Woolworths was going to have some glass jugs on a certain day, and sent Pat and her sister out to stand in the line. They stood there for hours, and while they were waiting, the Germans started a bombing run, and strafed the shops where Pat and her sister were standing. And did anyone leave the line? No they did not. They bred them hard in those days.

So Pat got the jug, paid the fourpence ha'penny, and took it home to be told that it was too small. I loved that story, and told her so, and this morning she dropped it into the shop for me. I was so honoured that she gave it to me, and will always treasure it. History is cool.
