A sad day

It has been, strangely, a very sad day. This morning my grandmother told me that her best friend of 60 years has cancer and probably won’t live out the week. This woman has called my grandmother every single day since my grandfather died five years ago, and has been her main support, even though she’s in her nineties. That's one of my favourite hymns. There are so many great old hymns which are no longer sung. (And when they are, are often sung to the wrong tune!)

I know. For years I've been trying to find a CD of hymns well-sung by a big choir, and they simply don't exist. Instrumentals, yes, but not with voices. I have one old record (the sole reason I bought my record player) that I remember from childhood. I listen to it and I'm five again, sitting against the speakers with Immortal Invisible and Oh God our Help in Ages Past rising to crescendo behind me. I must keep looking, actually.
