Home sweet home

I’m staying for a couple of days with my parents while hubby’s out of town and before my brother-in-law’s girlfriend moves in with us tonight. She’s a lawyer, just moved to town and the flat which looked so perfect in photos is dirty and in a very dodgy neighbourhood. For those of you who have seen our house, no I don’t know where she’s going to sleep either. But anyway, this morning I was driving to work from Mum and Dad’s along the waterfront and decided to stop for a coffee. I sat at an outdoor table and looked at the quiet shining water only 20m away, with the islands out in the distance trembling through the lovely chiaroscuro light. It was one of those transcendent moments when everything is just perfect. My coffee was excellent, I was outside without a coat, and the early-morning sun was shining. I sat there and thought “What a great place to live.” Perhaps I should stop longing to be elsewhere.
