what if everything around you, isn't quite as it seems?

what if all the world you used to know, is an elaborate dream?
and if you look at your reflection, is it all you want to be?
what if you could look right through the cracks, would you find yourself
find yourself afraid to see?
(completely in love with this song, right now)

yes, i saw nine inch nails last night. :)

okay. timmy, jon and i made our way down to boston in the latter part of the afternoon, after a couple drinks and some other things, and found our way to the fleet center. we killed time walking around, tim lost his bag of weed that he had hidden in his shoe. i still think it was pick-shoed on the T. :)

jon and i had seats on the opposite side of the arena from tim, and we're all to fucking stubborn to move to sit near each other. of course. anyway. death from above 1979 more or less sucked, so we'll skip this bit.

moving on. queens of the stone age did an excellent job, though not as excellent as the set they played at lollapalooza two years ago. without nick oliveri, and with their current drummer, i felt that the the band's performance was less cohesive than before. and the mixing made it all sound a little muddy.

but. nine inch nails. what can i say? phenomenal. i knew the show would be good, but that surpassed my expectations. the setlist was perfect, the performance was flawless, and the lighting and stage were beautifully done. i mostly wanted to see them play "only", "even deeper", "the wretched" and "ruiner". they hit the first 3 which was good enough. :)

mid-set a silk curtain dropped around the stage. illuminated upon this canvas were images meant to illustrate the songs ("eraser" being the first and most memorable of these 3 songs). maggots led to amoebas that divided and multiplied, and veins pumped, pushing red blood cells forward toward oxygen, and flowers bloomed slowly, and animals mated and migrated. it was a harmonious world of color, life and death.

then there was a tank. and a gun. and men with helmets. and fire. and dead bodies. ("right where it belongs" begins somewhere in here) and iraq. new orleans. the president. people dancing at a black tie event. people with faces torn off by butterfly bombs. a happy couple house hunting. a crispy, burnt-up vehichle abandoned in the desert.

and thousands of middle fingers held high for mr. and mrs. bush. beautiful. my favorite part :)
