I dragged kaishowing out with me today to go to a 'tabletop' sale...why the hell do they insist on giving these stupid names to a 2nd hand sale? When I was a kid it was a jumble sale, whats wrong with calling it that, its a hell of a lot easier saying I'm going to a jumble sale, rather than saying I'm going to a tabletop sale. Whats wrong with the old name?
Another thing I've noticed since moving up to northern Scotland, is incorrect names. If I was to say to you carboot sale, what does that bring to mind? Yeah a field with a load of cars and people selling stuff from the back of the cars, NOT as the Caithness people would have it, what they call a carboot sale is in fact a tabletop sale or as I prefer to call it a JUMBLE SALE.
Anyway, I knew not to expect too much from this jumble sale, even if it was advertised locally and made to look a grand day out, I knew otherwise, it was just a couple of rows of tables with a few tables worth of true jumble saley type stuff but was dominated by a load of tables selling cakes and gastly looking things that I'd be too nervous to attempt to eat due to the toxic looking colouring the little old ladies pour into the icing.
So yeah, getting back to the highlight of my day, I bought one book and kaishowing found a copy of 'Catcher in the Rye'. The rest of the books were the usual junk.
