Today is Tuesday, January 5th, 2010 A.D./C.E....
Or is it Tuesday, January 5th, 2763 A.U.C. or December 23rd, 2762 A.U.C.?
Or The 20th of Pachon, 2758?
Or The 20th of Poseideon-2, 1st year of the 697th Olympiad?
Or Tyr`s Day, Snowmoon 5, 2260 R.E.?
Or Setting Orange, Chaos 5, Year of Our Lady of Discord 3176 -- Mungday?
There are many different calendars and dating systems in use by contemporary Pagans and Heathens. What dating systems/calendars do you use and why? Have you ever encountered problems juggling multiple calendars?
For Neo-Pagans/Wiccans who follow the Wheel of the Year:
The Wheel of the Year does not usually have a dating system or calendar attached to it although many Neo-Pagans tend to assert that Samhain is the New Years celebration. Do you believe that Neo-Pagans following the Wheel of The Year should develop a Common Neo-Pagan dating system and/or a calendar?
If Yes, what should be the start date? Should the calendar be lunar, solar, lunisolar, based on a current calendar, or something else entirely?
If No, how do you justify calling Samhain New Years (if you do so)? Do you have any issues with using a dating system that is based on Christianity (since the year is dated from what was believed to be the birth of Jesus Christ) within a Pagan Context?
