Ah, but only if one KNOWS you're talking about wooled rabbits like angoras. I have New Zealands that we use for meat primarily but also do tan their hides and I had to read your post twice to figure out why you'd answer that way... because I would have said "well... duh... not like they're going to hop around nekkid!" :-)
umm no actually.it would be like asking if cows have to die to get their leather. sheeps wool is usually just shorn (cut) where as fur is the whole skin.
I think she's talking about angora type rabbits where you remove the hair and knit sweaters and soft things, not rabbit pelt. So actually the wool analagy is accurate.
I have angoras, so I've gotten this question a few times. Usually in horrified tones because they think I'm raising English Angoras to slaughter them for fur.
Personally, I don't care for rabbit or hare meat. We're now raising ducks, as well. Can't wait to hear what folks say about that!
No kidding! I was asked not to long ago how was I going to get eggs from my chickens without a rooster. A classic "How is babbys formed?"
...Wut? I do agree, tryst_inn most people do not have a clue how food gets to the store except by "truck". This however does not prevent me from laughing out loud in their face anyway.
It's not such a stupid question, really. Most of the time "rabbit fur" suggests a pelt, which requires skinning the animal.
Perhaps if people talked about "rabbit wool" when referring to angoras and the like it would be a bit clearer, as "wool" is cut from a variety of animals without harming them.
WTF are you thinking suggesting effective communication between humans! The thought police will be at your house in 15 minutes to deliver the lashing you desperately deserve!
Now I will explain that is sarcasm because earlier in the thread sarcasm was missed.
I agree with you fully. That is exactly what I though when I read this.
Ahhh, you're talking about fur for spinning? I just assumed that you were referring to pelts. Hence the crash and burn of my attempted humor. I guess I'm stupid as well :)

And furthermore, I suggest that the next version of HTML include a code indicating "sarcasm", such as is used for bold or italics...
