Intriguing stories about aliens, spiders, and more

Sep 02, 2010 01:03

Browsing the Anthology Builder blog tonight, I came across these stories that I'd like to read:

Sue Burke’s Spiders:
A man and his son explore the xenobiology of their home planet, and nothing is what it appears to be.

Tim McDaniel’s Teacher’s Lounge:
Life is tough for an English as a Second Language teacher, particularly when half your students are aliens who appear to be plotting a hostile takeover.

I found Alvaro’s New Life by Sue Burke particularly touching, and it’s hard to get me to say that about an apocalypse story. I particularly like the way Burke takes a generally accepted truth - Smoking can be hazardous to your health - as the basis for a speculative conceit.
