The Solar Sea
I got The Solar Sea (LBF Books, 2008) by David Lee Summers from amazon recently; it's a fun and informative read. Summers is an astronomer, and I appreciated his background on our solar system, along with the adventure of exploring it in a world where NASA and space exploration are dead, though we have industry on the moon. [I enjoyed learning about our planets; we need to get moving and learn more!] And I appreciated Pilot's backup plans!
The characters, including Navy captain Natalie Freeman--my favorite--and a diverse group of scientists, have the background and the desire to crew the solar sail ship to the moon, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. Some of them discover and decipher the message sent by whales to the ring keepers... Who or what and where are they?!
