Theodosia and the Last Pharaoh (Houghton Mifflin Books for Children, 2011) by R. L. LaFevers; Yoko Tanaka (Illustrator)

This is the fourth book in the series; I haven't read the first three, but I'm looking forward to reading them now!  I love books set in Egypt--especially historical and archeological mysteries.  I enjoyed Theodosia's list of Things to Do in Egypt at the beginning of the book; it's a fun list and a great way to give background to new readers; the whole book was full of humor and Egyptian lore and history.  Theodosia is a lively and intelligent heroine, with fascinating talents and contacts that few people know about, and I enjoyed her adventures and companions, including her cat, Isis, and her new friend, Gadji, the donkey boy with his own secrets and his faithful companion, Sefu.  I look forward to learning more about her background and her grandfather.  What secret is her mother hiding?  Will she and Theodosia learn to know and appreciate each other better?  I also look forward to reading the earlier books so I can meet her friends back home who are referred to briefly and sound interesting.

Note: I received this book free through Amazon Vine for review.
