Title: Suteki na Kanashibari
Pairings/Characters: Yokoo/Fujigaya
Rating: PG
Summary: Fujigaya experiences sleep paralysis for the first time in his life, but luckily someone was there with him.
A/N: If someone doesn't know what kanashibari (sleep paralysis) is, here's a wikipage. I had that often and I sincerely hated it every time. Terrifying. This short fic is based on something that apparently happened for real to Fujigaya and he talked about it in some magazine (here's the translation). The title for the fic was suggested by a friend, and it's actually the title of a film that I didn't watch, but definitely plan to /unrelated to the fic. The fic has been written quickly and barely re-read, sorry about that.

Fujigaya felt something wrapping his legs and dragging him. His eyes were open and he could see only darkness around him while he heard something hissing in his ears. Panic began to make his heart pounding, beating fast inside his chest as his body felt cold. He wanted to move, but none of his limbs was able to cooperate as he still felt dragged away, absorbed by something that felt like quicksand under his legs. He knew he was still in his bed, and he was sure he wasn’t sleeping anymore. The contours of the familiar furniture in the hotel room started to appear more outlined as his eyes were quickly getting used to the darkness. Fear invaded him. He started to be scared that he won’t be able to move anymore, that he will always live in a sort of threshold between reality and nightmare.

Suddenly he felt something warm and alive next to him. A familiar grip on his hand started to send courage throughout his veins and as his body woke up he flinched, finally able to control his muscles. He felt that Yokoo’s hand was trying to slip away from his grip, so he clasped it more firmly.

The night lamp on Yokoo’s side switched on. Fujigaya closed his eyes and then squeezed them to get used to the sudden luminosity of the room.

“Taisuke, all okay?”

He heard Yokoo’s voice muffled by the cozy night silence. He was still holding his hand as he sat up to take a closer look at the other. Fujigaya had no intention of letting go of his hand and Yokoo must have understood something was wrong, because he didn’t try to let go of it anymore.

“I’m fine now.” Fujigaya finally opened his eyes and saw Yokoo’s worried face. Eyes still half shut because of the light.

“What happened? You were squeezing my hand.” Yokoo said, but Fujigaya knew he was still clutching his hand actually.

“Sorry Wataru.” Fujigaya sat up on the bed and released Yokoo’s hand. “I just had... something. I felt like I couldn’t move a muscle in my body and scary things kept happening. I felt noises and something was pulling my legs... maybe it was, what is it called?”

“Kanashibari. Sleep paralysis. It happened to me before.” Yokoo smiled, a smile of understanding. “Nothing to be afraid of.”

“Well it was scary!” Fujigaya protested. “I was scared.”

“You’re admitting it, so it must be true.” Maybe Yokoo didn’t mean to tease him, but Fujigaya felt irritated because the other was taking his pain so lightly.

“Oh shut up. I never felt something like that in my life before. I heard of it, but I didn’t know it could be so horrible.” Fujigaya pulled the blankets over his face and side-eyed Yokoo.

“Okay, sorry if I dismissed your pain Taisuke.” Yokoo smiled. “Can we go back to sleep now?”

“Oh you!” Fujigaya took the pillow from behind his back and hit Yokoo with it as the other bursted out laughing because of the sudden reaction.

“I was joking. Joking!” Yokoo muttered between laughs but Fujigaya continued hitting him with the pillow. Yokoo grabbed the pillow and threw it on the side, but Fujigaya was still trying to reach for it, shoving himself on Yokoo’s lap and stretching his arms to reach the other end of the bed. Yokoo wrapped his arms around Fujigaya, and he finally stopped moving.

“Idiot.” Fujigaya grumbled.

“If this is all you can say and do to me, you must be really shaken. Usually you mistreat me in a more refined way.”

“Don’t take advantage of this. You know I have a good memory. A revenge joke will follow.”

Yokoo laughed. “I’m sorry you felt that way Taisuke. I know, sleep paralysis is horrible. Are you better now?”

“I am.” Fujigaya replied. “Because you held my hand. I never want that to ever happen to me again, but please, hold my hand again if it happens.”

“I didn’t know you were having a sleep paralysis Taisuke. You weren’t moving. No one can tell if you’re having a sleep paralysis or if you’re just sleeping.”

Fujigaya turned his face to stare directly into Yokoo’s eyes. “Then you’ll just have to sleep with me all the time. Holding hands all the time.”

Yokoo batted his eyelids as he stared intensely at Fujigaya’s face. Then he placed his hand on his cheek. The same warm hand that woke up Fujigaya from his awake nightmare a few minutes before.

Fujigaya realized what he had just said. They were sleeping together because of the tour and they had ended up sharing the same bed as usual, snuggling together under the covers, sharing at least kisses and hugs even when they were too tired to have sex. It had been like that for ages now, Fujigaya had never been bored of forcing his way into Yokoo’s arms whenever he could. Not that he had to put much effort in it, as Yokoo was gladly spreading his arms to welcome him anytime.

They had been a couple without ever mentioning the word couple - aside for the magazine’s interviews, because lately they had been starting to show a bit of what their relationship was like even outside their private space.

They had shared hotel rooms, their own bedrooms and every place where they could escape the world and be just themselves, for each other. Their passion for each other was soothing and warm and Fujigaya realized too soon it had been driven by the feelings he felt for Yokoo’s comfortable presence in his life. He remembered the first time they kissed. That awkward tipsy kiss that had transformed into something more only at the second attempt. When their lips weren’t touching, they had smiled at each other inebriated by happiness. It all came natural to them, as if they had always belonged into each other’s arms, as if their respective bodies had been shaped for one another. Yokoo had grabbed Fujigaya’s wrist and pulled him out of the taxi they took together one day after work, after it stopped in front of his flat. Fujigaya let him drag him to his bedroom, let his lips kiss every part of him and let all the pleasure out as they sunk into each other’s skin.

They started sleeping holding hands because they wanted to keep feeling the other, but when they had tried sleeping while hugging it had just resulted in an uncomfortably painful awakening. Hands were a much better deal. They could still feel each other’s presence and closeness, but without having to wake up with a body sore from sleeping in uncomfortable positions.

So they were a couple after all. A couple that held hands while sleeping together to remain as close as possible even if they were dreaming about different things. A couple meant that one of them could rescue the other simply being there, as it happened a few minutes before.

Fujigaya smiled. “I miss you when you’re not next to me. We should always be in the same bed.”

Yokoo moved his hand behind Fujigaya’s neck and pulled his head to his chest. Fujigaya could feel his heart beating and he was sure he could somehow feel his own heart beating too. It was amazing how they both managed to be so emotionally involved every single time they were together, even after what he considered a long time. In that moment, Yokoo’s heart was telling him that he was feeling exactly the same, that he wanted him closer and that he missed him too when he wasn’t there next to him. Fujigaya smiled then raised his head to meet Yokoo’s gaze. Yokoo brushed Fujigaya’s cheek with his fingers and kissed him sweetly and passionately on the lips. Fujigaya knew there was no need to talk, but he wanted to hear all the same.

“Ask me.”

“Ask you what?”

“Ask me how are we going to do it. Sleeping together all the time. We need to organize things.”

“Taisuke, I don’t want to organize things now.”

Fujigaya pouted but then Yokoo hastily added, “there will be time for that. For now, I just want to keep kissing you.”

Sometimes words were really unnecessary. Fujigaya’s happiness could be seen, felt, tasted, heard. It was all out for Yokoo to seize.
