You wont understand. You can't.
Not until you hear the doctor tell your patient's wife that there is nothing more they can do, and the first person she turns to is you. She throws her arms around you and she sobs. And all you can do is stand there and try not to cry. Because she needs support. Because she needs to see that it will be okay. And you don't even think that it is or ever will be.
Because you see it every day.
Which people seem to think makes it easier. It doesn't. It shouldn't.
I am a new graduate and I already have caregiver fatigue.
