The thing that strikes me most about the
Mississippi case where a gay high school student's desire to bring her girlfriend to the prom prompted the school to cancel the event, was this line:
"The school hoped that private citizens in the community would organize an event to replace the prom."
That is exactly the same kind of thing schools in the South used to (and still) do to avoid having racially integrated proms.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
