I've avoided talking about this, because I get pissed off every time, but here goes.... February 1st, I dropped my rent check, which had been made as a moneygram money order, off in the late drop box. The box is actually right by the front door, because I guess they've never heard of a MAIL SLOT. Fast forward to the 5th, I come home to find a note on my door that says my rent is overdue and I owe a late fee on top of that. WTF? I go into the office the next morning, only to discover that about 15-20 rent checks were stolen out of the drop box. My first thought was, why wasn't I told this that monday?

So next, I get to spend $15 to get a tracer/photocopy of my money order in order to determine if it was altered and stolen. The apartment credits this to my account, and tells me not to worry about that month's rent, as the company would reissue the money order to them. So everything is cool until I get the photocopy and call moneygram to see what my next step is. The money order has been COMPLETELY altered, with every last bit of writing replaced, and which a bank somehow cashed anyway. They inform me that I now have to send them ANOTHER $25 IN ORDER TO START THE INVESTIGATION TO GET MY MONEY BACK, AND I MIGHT NOT EVEN GET REPAID!

WHAT

THE

FUCK??????!!!!!

On top of that, they tell me it could take anywhere from 2 months to a year to get repaid, IF I get repaid. Hearing this, I decided to say screw it and gave the complex the rent for February, and just have the bank pay me directly.

So let's recap:

Apartment complex - Paid (after they accidentally sent me an eviction notice. Yeah - I was pissed too)

Bank - Aided a criminal

Me - Out $40 at least, and possibly almost $600 if I don't get repaid.

Fucking soon-to-be-deceased thief - Has my original money

Nice to now everyone EXCEPT me has made out on this deal. I wonder if I could sue the bank for emotional distress? I DEFINITELY will sue the thief if they ever catch his/her ass.
