Still at the convention doin' my thing. I've got a break before the auction and banquet so I decided to do a quick post!
I only got my duck half-done. Got very detailed instruction on how to skin it, prep the wings/ feet, fleshing, and cleaning, but didn't get to mount it because my feet were freezerburnt and needed to soak overnight. HOWEVER one of the instructors (who, by the way, had a duck place 1st in Masters with almost a perfect score) lives about an hour away from me and offered free instruction since he felt bad that I didn't get to finish it :D Free 1-on-1 lesson yes! He said I could bring any other birds with me to work on too so I'm going to use his shop to prep my other duck, but I'm going to solo mount it so I can compete with it. I went ahead and bought the replacement heads and bodies for both my birds at the convention so I won't have to pay shipping.
My coyote ended up placing 88 so 3 points higher than last time. I hoped for a blue, but he really nitpicked the CRAP out of my mount. When I asked him about the nipicking detail, apparently he had a lot more time this conference to judge and really took the time to critique every single damned thing. Not the end of the world - next coyote I do will definitely get a first since I know so much now :) I really can't fix any more flaws in this mount at this point without completely tearing it up and re-doing so I'm retiring it.
Anyway, out of time so more later! I've still got photographs to crop and upload somewhere.
