(sorry - have forgotten how to do a text cut link)
Since Melody was invited to a friend's birthday party, we weren't able to go up to Lugnet until the evening, so missed the first few bands. No clue what I missed, but a children's party is fun, too! :)
Today's bands with my comments (again, the band list is copied from www.rockstadfalun.se):
BENESSER, IN BLOOM, TUCK, HELL PATROL, THALAMUS, PREY, LESS THAN 4 - missed all these concerts by local bands.
THE REFRESHMENTS: *yawn* Sorry, but this kind of music (rockabilly) is not my style. A bit boring and - in my not-so-unbiased opinion - all songs sound more or less alike. Perfect time to start the evening with a cider and a chat with some people in the sunshine.
JOHN LINDBERG TRIO: Same boring music as the last band. Kept talking to people by the beer tent. Had a sort of interesting chat with a drunk policeman. lol Oh, and the keyboard player from Prey came up to our table for a bit. I had to admit that I hadn't heard their concert, but he was nice to talk to. I promised to check them out next time I have a chance.
CRUCIFIED BARBARA: It started to rain, unfortunately, so all I heard of this band was the little that was to be heard from inside the beer tent. Found a few other weirdos to talk to, though. The little I could hear of the music sounded ok, though. Would have loved to be able to hear a bit more. I mean, how common is it for a girls band to be a good heavy metal band?
THE POODLES: Now I was holding a place at the big stage for what was coming up later, so heard the whole concert by The Poodles. I thought they would be ok, but they were quite good! I was pleasantly surprised, actually. They were well worth watching! I would have loved to see the people's faces when the singer tried (and succeeded) to provoke the audience by first saying, "are we the last ones to play here tonight?" and then, "oh yeah, I hear Hammerfall will be onstage after us!"... I got the impression people glared in the most menacing way! haha Shame I wasn't able to go up to the merchandise tent after the concert to get a signed copy of their latest CD.
SABATON: Yessss! This was what we all had been waiting for! Our hometown band! Honestly, this band makes me proud to be from Falun. They are awesome!!! Beyond great! One reason why we all love them is probably because they are stars who still act like the common guys from Falun. They just laugh at themselves if something goes slightly wrong... which it only did once tonight, I think. I swear, each of the six band members is great when he plays his music and together, they make one of the greatest bands there is! They played a good mix of old and new songs and kept going for about 1.5 hours and the concert ended in some great fireworks. Now, the downside of it, was the audience and how they pressed forward, towards the stage. I have been at a concert once with 92.000 people, but this was more scary than that one, despite there only being 5-6.000 people here tonight. I was squeezed into the crowd, all surrounded by guys much taller and stronger than I. Pushed, squeezed, almost knocked over... I tried to stay at my spot, but had no chance to fight the tide. They were taller, stronger; I nearly lost balance a few times, fought to stay up. Struggled to keep hold of my handbag, cane and new t-shirts. Honestly, i almost thought my last moment had come; I knew that if I lost balance, people would tread and jump on me. But some guy helped me out of the worst craziness. Once I was out of the battle, I realised how close to panic I had been. I nearly cried. I felt like flinging my arms around this stranger's neck in gratitude. He stayed at my side throughout the concert. The friend I was there with had lost contact with me while The Poodles played. My choice.
PüMPÖLAGET: One of the most famous cover bands from the area in a metal costume. We started to head out of the area, but heard a few songs and it sounded really good, actually. Unusually good for being a cover band, I'd say. Good party music for the ones who remained.
The festival is over and I feel sooo happy, satisfied and tired!
Things for a blue-eyed blonde to keep in mind after this weekend of experiences:
- Drunk people can come with some really weird, but interesting thoughts. Two different guys asked me if I wanted to touch their faces to see how they look. The drunk policeman also seemed to think he needed to touch me for me to "see" that he was there.
- After 3 ciders, it is wise to use the bathroom before walking home.
- NEVER EVER try to stand in the front of a Sabaton audience again! To stay alive in such circumstances is truly "THE ART OF WAR".
Ok, so when's the next Rockstad festival?! Can't wait for the 2011 edition!
