That was an interesting weekend, though I feel like I need a week of vacation now. Not used to that amount of fresh air. Kidding. :P Thanks
wickedground, for accompanying me! And sorry for snatching away that cheese bread, but you know, it was for your own good. *g*
Now, a word or three about those two thrillers each based on a novel. *g* (Mostly spoiler free, me thinks, but enter at your own risk.)
Note: I went into both of them not having read the novels they're based on, and with just the plot lines imdb offered. Hadn't even seen the trailers. ;)
The Ghost Writer. In short, I really enjoyed it (despite having seats that made it look like the aspect ratio was off and the seats being so narrow that the woman next to me kept grabbing my knee... at least I think it wasn't on purpose). It was gripping, funny and entertaining, and that without one single explosion, ha! Is it a spoiler when I say that Ewan gets naked? :P The ending was a surprise, though the big revelation exactly wasn't - I called it halfway through. Then again, I have paranoid tendencies, so it probably doesn't have anything to do with my brilliant mind. *g* I'd definitely recommend seeing it, some great acting and it had the right length - not too short and not too long.
Which can't exactly be said for Shutter Island. Now, I'd say it's a good movie and Leonardo DiCaprio was brilliant, I think, but several times it seemed to drag. The ending was half a surprise, but interesting to watch how it all unraveled. It totally made up for the few moments when I wanted to check for the time. *g* The imagery is really disturbing in parts, and with that ending, while it fit and made sense, I left the theatre somewhat depressed.
Btw, save for two moments that made you jump, the movie wasn't scary at all. ;D
Some random pics for the colour. ;D Rachel Weisz, Christian Bale, Neil Patrick Harris, George Clooney (and Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick), Leonardo DiCaprio, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Colin Firth, Christoph Waltz, Ewan McGregor, Olivia Williams, Pierce Brosnan, Kerr Smith and Gerard Butler scans by Lorna. :D
