I recommend getting 'out there' and doing what you love to do and doing it quite often. Last week I was cameraman on Rodney's film excursion and it was loads of fun. I cannot wait until the next shoot. I went to the Aurora Picture show on Saturday with Mike and Kerrick and we watched some found 16mm reel films. They were short public service ( Read more... )

Thats too funny. Without the FCC, the only people you would hear on radio would be those rich enough to afford powerful transmitters, the ones that cause FLKs (Funny-Looking Kids).

Without the FCC, ALL stations would be clear channel, or Disney, or Enron. There would be no guarntee that what you hear on the radio would be the truth, or anything bearing a remote resemblance of the truth. As it is, since the FCC manages the freq sectrums on our behalf (despite what you think, the FCC works for you), you have a powerful tool to use against anyone on the air. If some local DJ slanders you on the air, it can suddenly be a misuse of the airwaves, which puts it in Federal Jursdiction. IE. Bad Mojo.

There is actually a bill out there that is going to allow freq reusue for 'local' radio stations, under a certain amount of power, on the agenda, which would allow you to legal opperate your own broadcast station.

The FCC is all about protecting freedom of speech. The fact that so many people CHOOSE to support Rush/Clear Channel would normaly be seen as a mandate, but to those who wish to believe that ALL things Rush are wrong, it is easier to call names than face truth...

I just had this discussion with a lady here at our offices. She hates rush. HATES him. She can't tell me why. Of course, I listen to him on occasion (I find him entertaining) via the internet. Having this same lady listening to Rush, and finding him informative and witty for 5 minutes before she relized who it was she was listening to was amazing. Her reaction once she relized who it was she was listening to was frightening. Rather than admit she had found it informative and interesting, she got an ugly look on her face, and said "I hate that guy" and stormed off!

So much for freedom of speech and expression...

She has every right to storm off. Just like you have the right to kiss his ass.

I am all for freedom of speech and expression. For the greater good or not, when you are forced to shut down your radio station that is not freedom. As with most things, the FCC has both good and bad aspects- in the context of being able to broadcast on a whim they are- in my opinion- bad. For me cencorship does not equal freedom. I guess I'm crazy like that. I'm not blind to the notion that if just anyone could broadcast we could run into some pretty bad scenarios... the broken eggs in the omelot-making process. As far as hearing the truth on the radio- gimme a break. There IS no guarantee for that. Period. You will always run into the biased elimination of truths and facts in the propagation of one agenda or another. If you continually listen to one side of the informational spectrum (ie: Rush/Clear Channel) you will obtain a very blinked view of the world. Nevertheless, within the context of my immediate point the bill you mentioned sounds like a step in the right direction.
