My mom

My mom is thinking about going back to school. I found this highly amusing. She is planning on retiring in 6 years, but she's been told that her job now requires that she has a bachelor's degree (she has an associates degree). She managed to find a college that is willing to take almost all of her associate credits as well as giving her 30 credits for being a nurse for so long. However she would have to take 16 credits worth of core curriculum that she never took for her associates degree. She would have to take 'Introduction to computing', 'Introduction to Chemistry', 'World History', and 'Statistics'. It took a good 5 minutes before I got over the image of my 59 year old mother sitting in an introduction to chemistry course trying to memorize the periodical table of elements and cursing at the book when trying to balance equations. And when I heard that she had to take statistics I couldn't help but roll my eyes. I barely passed statistics, my mom hasn't been in a math class in over 30 years. She's trying to figure out if she can keep her job without going for the degree, or if she is going to have to get it. Which really sucks as it will almost take her as long to get the degree taking it as night courses then when she's planning on retiring. The kicker of course is that the hospital will pay for 3.5 credits worth a year, since it is a bachelor's degree. And she has to take 45 credits worth after finishing the core requirements.
