I hate how I never noticed things are sharpened too much until someone points it out. Such a huge problem! I'll make sure to pay attention to that from now on.
Can you tell me what you mean by bland? I'll be honest and say that's really not a good word to describe an icon by. Do you mean it should be saturated more?
I think that came before I figured out how to color over the grey toned stuff so that might be why. I just did a linear burn layer over everything and colored that way.
Oh wow those are gorgeous! I really love that Shiki icon's texture use and the colors. Your anime icons also have a nice pastel look that brings out the color.
A few things, though, would be to try and redraw/clean out text bubbles in icons-- it makes them look so much nicer, even if it's a pain sometimes. Another is to soften the blushes? Especially in 7 when it's darker, but in 3 it's really plain-- I'd rec using a size 9 or bigger brush with a 0% hardness and just touching over it-- it gives it a nice soft look more befitting of blushes. And to clean out the lines underneath them. \o/
