Free shoes are the best shoes

Whats up LJ friends. Haven't posted on this bad larry in many hott minutes, but I am getting really fed up with how abusive Myspace is towards me.

Lately I've been feeling kinda jaded and hopeless. Actually I've been feeling like that for a bit now. I'm up to my ass in debt to my housemates and haven't found myself a fucking job yet. My room had sort of become a prison/haven durring the brutal winter. Either I'm organizing the obscene ammount of music I've been downloading, getting my room all fucked up in my haste to make it to the few comitments I've had, or cleaning the place up for company, that sometimes doesn't even show up. I just picked all the clothes up and shit a few days ago but a weekend of partying brought it back to how it was. I guess its a little better.
But today was pretty fucking rad. Good stuff happens when I leave my house.
Only for day trips though. Any period longer than 24hrs and the place all goes to hell.
Quay called me up around noon, all bored and shit, and since it was all nice out and shit, we decided to take a little stroll down to M Street so I could fill out some job applications. On the way out, I ran into Dr.B and he was on his was to my place to do a little gardening, so we chatted it up for a few and continued on our merry way. We stopped into Sky High to peep all the glass we couldn't afford and don't really need, but its always nice to see if they have any particularily sweet peices.
I walked past a couple of places I used to work, but I was determined to only go in as a last case scenario. I am really done with the fucking food service industry. If you've ever worked at a restraunt preparing the food, you really have a different perspective on what is really safe to order. Too many harsh chemicals coming into contact with the food. Or, for the food itself is fucked up. For example, most companies buy cheap ass tomatoes that are usually half rotten and coated in petroleum based wax. Not really digestable stuff.
And if I were to work at a food service place, I wanted to try a new one, because at least I don't know the boss will definitely be a total asshole.
So I dropped my name and number at a pizza place i'd applied at a few times, and put on my best shit eating grin as i asked when the manager would be in to arrange an interview.
Next door was another head shop, so we figured we'd see what's up thur too. The dude behind the register was being a dick, as usual, so I was determined to walk outa there with something. So after finding my size and waiting for the right moment, I nabbed some expensive ass sandals which I am now wearing. Shoes are the best steal for two reasons; 1. they are over priced and typically made by sweatshop labour, and 2. you get to enjoy them for years if you get a quality pair. I still need new running shoes.
On the way to the coffee shop, I noticed that the corner convience store was looking for help. I spoke with the manager and he seemed pretty enthused, so although the hours are kinda shitty, it'll beat rushing my ass off in a hot kitchen making toxic food i fouldnt feed bob hope. hopefully I'll be life guarding down the street from my house come summer time, but in the meantime, I need loots before my housemates evict my ass. Especially if I am going to come home for prom. Gotta get that hustle hustle on.
Quay and I sat and chilled out at LaTazza, the coffee shop. The place is pretty fucking rad. Its got kinda a swanky environment, but it serves a less pretentious crowd. A far better alternative to Starbucks and Dunks. Its a locally owned buisness, supports local musicians, and the employees are paid better than min. and get a % of the profits. Also, the coffee is two bucks for a large, and its fair trade/organic. All good things.
Then it got even better! On our way home, I found a sweet ass beret and a blue bandana on the ground. We headed over to the campus bus stop because we knew there was going to be a 6:00 Westcott bus and usually, there are so many people the driver's don't even ask for SU IDs. This time he did, and I was afeared my fun streak was over, but he said he'd make an exception this time. Can't let a "student" walk four blocks to his house. That'd be cruel.
Once I got home, a couple of my housemates and a future one invited me to go see a showing of "The Take" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0426596/ , back on campus. For those who haven't seen it, its a really moving documentary about workers' power and direct action. What some would sugar coat as "Real Democracy" or more plainly, anarchism. Basically its about the movement of "expropriation" of nations resources, except this time, its the people expropriating their resources back from the powerful elite and multinationals. It really recharged my belief that "Another World is Possible/Now". What I've really been needing. It reminded me of The Corporation, which is another rad flick that anyone interested in understanding this whole hegemonic monster that is global capitalism should take a peak at. Roger and Me, and The Big One, both by Michael Moore are pretty decent too, but don't offer as baddass of solutions.
After that, we all had some delicious dinner and helped jake with his thesis by having a discussion about "what went wrong in europe? how did we get to where we are today?" To document his experiment, he recorded our conversation, which totally throws off my flow. The conversation that proceeded after he went to bed is what his thesis really should've been on. Quay, Richard, and I just went back and forth talking about our thoughts on all sorts of things. From mental illness to globalism to community building to religion to quantum theory. Basically its all connected.
What a boring re-entry into the LJ world. I'm sure we're both sorry if you read all of this.
Love you all!
