a kink meme is where you request a pairing and a prompt/kink anonymously, and someone else (or several someone elses for that matter) can fill that said prompt (also anonymously if they so wish). again, like i stated in the rules this is called a kink meme, but the rules are pretty lax on how "kinky" it is. if you don't want sex in your prompt,

A Japanese private - Snafu would remember that face for the rest of his life - pointed his rifle at Sledge’s direction and fired.
Sledge never saw it coming; he was too damn busy being heroic and providing cover fires for the other boys.
Snafu didn’t think Sledge even scream. The boy just stumbled backward and then fell on his knees. No one - not one of those damn pussies Sledge was protecting - stopped to help him up. Fuck all of them.
Snafu knew he was the only one who was going to help. He made his way over and shot that fucking Japanese soldier between the eyes. Sledge was gasping for air with a hand over the right of his chest. He was bleeding bad, and the mud was soaking up his blood like a sponge.
Sledge turned his head and looked up; the life in his eyes was fading.
“Sledgehammah,” Snafu screamed, yanking Sledge up to his feet. “Get on your fuckin’ feet.”
Sledge actually had the damn nerves to shake off Snafu. He pushed away, one hand holding his rifle and the other pressed into his chest to stop the bleeding. He was sweating and going pale at the same time. He drew in a breath and glared at Snafu like Snafu was the enemy.
“No,” he said, his voice merely a whisper, “I can still fight.”
What a stupid little boy.
“Ain’t nobody to fight here,” Snafu barked. He stepped forward and grabbed Sledge by the arm.
Sledge fought against him again. He took a few steps back, his face twisting in pain. He took his hand off his wound, which would surely get infected soon if they didn’t find a corpsman, and held his rifle up. He really intended to keep killing.
Snafu had enough of that shit. He turned his rifle around and slammed the butt into Sledge’s stomach. Sledge folded over, and in a bit, he threw up at Snafu’s feet. He barely had enough strength to stand up straight, so he only stared daggers at Snafu.
“Come here, cher,” Snafu cooed. He slipped his arm around Sledge and made sure he was secured and safe.
He was pretty much dragging Sledge back to camp. Sledge couldn’t keep his head up, let alone walk, because of the blood loss. The good news was that the Japanese wasn’t following them and had started to cease fire.
The bad news, he wasn’t sure if Sledge would survive his wound. In his experience, anyone that was shot usually didn’t make it, especially not if they were shot above the waist. Fucking Sledgehammer - why did he have to go play hero?
“Corpsman!” Snafu screamed into the battlefield, his voice drowned out by the crying soldiers all around him. “I need a fuckin’ corpsman here!”
He spotted Leyden and Burgin pulling whoever out they could. They saw him holding Sledge, and their faces sank. Leyden screamed for a corpsman, but none came. Snafu kept walking, past Burgin and up over the hill. By now, Sledge was unconscious, his feet carving two tracks in the mud.
“Sledgehammah,” Snafu mumbled, “Don’t you dare die on me.”
He finally located a corpsman tending to a PFC. He carried Sledge over, abandoning their rifles along the way. He set Sledge down on the ground next to the corpsman as careful as he could. His throat dried when he saw how the colors had left Sledge’s face. Against his better judgment, he slid two fingers across Sledge’s face and smudged away some dirt.

The corpsman didn’t even look at Sledge. He pressed both hands down over the private’s chest and tried to stop the bleeding. The private wasn’t even breathing.
“He’s gone,” he said. “Look at Sledgehammah.”
Snafu waited, and when the corpsman didn’t acknowledge him or Sledge, he reached over and grabbed him by the collars. He shook the corpsman, rage burning his eyes red.
“You fuckin’ listen to me now,” he said, voice low and face so close to the corpsman that the tips of their noses were touching. “If Gene dies, I’m buryin’ you next to him. You understand?”
The corpsman shuddered and looked down at Sledge. He nodded, nervous, and Snafu let him go. He took out his kit and got down to work.
Snafu stepped back, reaching to light a cigarette, and watched the corpsman tend to Sledge. The corpsman took out the bullet and wrapped up the wound. Sledge groaned but was still mostly out of it. The corpsman looked up at Snafu, lips quivering.
“He’s going to be fine,” the corpsman said. “We’ll get him a bed.”
Snafu didn’t say anything or react in any significant way. He only exhaled the smoke, took a longing look at Sledge, and walked away.

Hope it was what you were looking for, OP!

I loved it so much. That was everything I wanted and more! The way Snafu refused to leave Sledge, the way Sledge wanted to keep fighting. The characterization was spot on. I can just so clearly see Snafu screaming at the doctor, and then not showing any reaction when Sledge is alright in the end. UGH I JUST CAN'T DESCRIBE MY JOY. This is amazing! Thank you so much!
