Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities:

Itachi, within Naruto canon, is freakin' strong. He is a master at chakra control and knows an astounding variety of ninjutsu and taijutsu techniques, though he specializes in genjutsu due to his low stamina. He is in possession of the Sharingan, a bloodline limit, and also the Mangekyō Sharingan which allows for him to access his greatest powers. To put it simply, he can punch, kick and stab his way out of anything, and when brute force doesn't prevail, he is capable of using illusions to trap the enemies and finish them off with ninjutsu. His favored tactics involve illusions first, though, considering that he has low stamina and thus won't last a full-out match of brute strength.

Apparently, his true strength is never revealed in the manga due to his deteriorating eyesight and health, the former brought on by the use of s Mangekyo Sharingan and the latter brought on by an unnamed but ultimately fatal illness.

This page can explain his abilities better than I would ever be able to.

Conditional: If your character has no superhuman canon abilities, what dormant ability will you give them? j/A

Weapons:

Various kunai, throwing stars, a short sword and, well, his eyeballs. His body is practically a living weapon, really, and he can use anything that stabs and pokes to good use when defending himself.

History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History:

His life before the start of the manga is very briefly touched upon by Madara Uchiha, but plays a vital role in the story in regards to Sasuke's development and subsequent choices. He was the first son born to Fugaku and Mikoto Uchiha, and showed an almost abnormal amount of talent in shinobi-hood since a very young age. He graduated from the ninja academy at the age of seven, mastered the Sharingan and made his first kill at the age of eight, succeeded the chuunin exams at the age of ten and became the captain of ANBU at the age of thirteen, something unprecedented at the time.

His father saw the future of the Uchiha clan in Itachi, but Itachi only ever saw his younger brother. He was somewhat of a compassionate older brother figure, protective and doting to the point where he professes that he will always be there for his younger brother, if if Sasuke grew up to hating him, foreshadowing his eventual demise.

However, the village was nearly in turmoil due to political ramifications. The Uchiha, discontent after being demoted to the level of the attack dogs of the village and the heavy discrimination they were faced planned a coup d'etat. Itachi, who was in ANBU at the time, was sent to spy on the heads of the village. However, because growing up within the carnage of the Third War instilled a heavy sense of pacifism into him, he ended up spying on the Uchiha clan instead for the sake of the village and for the sake of preventing another war.

Political things happened. The Konoha council ordered Itachi to massacre the Uchiha. He discovered Madara Uchiha. Shit went down, and Itachi ended up killing his entire clan overnight save for the sole exception of his younger brother (and possibly a member of the Uchiha family that had been wed to the Hyuugas) as his love for his younger brother was more than his love for the village himself. He played himself out to be a traitor to the village, instilled a sense of hatred in his little brother, begged the Third Hokage to keep his younger brother safe and fled the village as a missing-nin.

He eventually joined the Akatsuki to keep an eye out for their movement and became the partner of Kisame Hoshigaki. Sometime during this time and the beginning of the manga, he became severely ill with an unknown but fatal illness, and began taking medication to suppress it for the sake of being alive long enough for his little brother to kill him.

And then the manga began.

Point in Canon: Just after his last fight with Sasuke, in which he releases Sasuke from the curse seal, beats him into a corner, pokes his little brother in the forehead and dies smiling.

Conditional: Brief summary of previous RP history: n/A

Character Personality:

The strangest part of Itachi's personality is that he is a pacifist. But this part of his personality also happens to be his focal point, a stubborn sense of ideology that he will do nothing short of massacre to achieve. This part of his personality, instilled within him at a tender age while living through the destruction during and after the Third War, is what ultimately shapes his perception of the world around him and is the one of his strongest motivations for doing what he did so many years ago.

There are many layers to his personality -- layers that he has taken care to weave himself and which he dons out of necessity and as a way of coping. This first layer is that of the uninterested observer. Passive to a fault and seemingly emotionless, he has a tendency to distance himself from those around him to the point of outright ignoring things that he doesn't care about outright or things which does not prove to be a threat. He has excellent control over his emotions, and very rarely is something about to penetrate his layers of apathy to the point of stirring a reaction from him. For all intents and purposes, he is dead to the world and the world is dead to him -- there is nothing that captures his attention and he is more than happy to drift along in his solitary way.

He enjoys solitude. It's the one thing he allows for himself to indulge in, not only as a necessity but also because it is calming. While he understands the need to blend in, he dislikes large crowds, and does not suffer incessant shouting well. However, very rarely will he actually raise a hand in removing the disturbance unless it has to be done. Generally, he removes himself silently from his source of discomfort without any explanation whatsoever.

It's an understatement to say that he doesn't deal well with people.

It's not so much that he dislikes people. He simply doesn't find their company necessary, and Itachi doesn't deal in unnecessary things. He tolerates those whom he must tolerate, bow to those whom he must bow to, and generally keeps his opinions to himself. The one thing about Itachi is that he is unfalteringly polite to those around him, whether or not that courtesy is returned. He is deferential when he needs to be, and generally addresses those around him with the -san prefix for good measure. This creates a sense of personal detachment from the one whom he is addressing, which suits him just fine. It doesn't matter to him that he is alienating those around him. As long as it does not affect working relations when they need to be 'worked', so to speak, he really could care less.

He doesn't trust easily. It's not so much paranoia as he knows that nothing can be trusted. It's a simple fact that he has long since learned to accept, and it's what he bases his judgment on. To have him place trust within you is a rarity and it shows how highly he thinks of you. If that trust were to break, however... he is fatalistic enough to understand that all trust is as meaningless as something scattered into the four winds. Chances are he would have expected it. Itachi very rarely holds grudges over things that have nothing to do with his brother. He rarely forgets, but also does not hold it against others. However, mistaking that for forgiveness is sometimes a little funny.

From time to time, his dry sense of humour might crop up. It's something of a rarity, but it's there, hidden amongst the layers of self-control and apathy.

The second layer to his personality is his intellectual side. Itachi is a very intelligent, observant and perceptive man, well versed in both the strategy of battle and the strategy of politics (though arguably, there really isn't any difference). This can both be applied to his prowess in battle, but also to life in general. He is ever imbued with a sense of subdued curiosity, and he enjoys reading as a pastime. Itachi likes intelligent things, calm things, things that talk back without being entirely irrational and things that can put up with a little friendly banter over a cup of tea. Having lived his life a prodigy, he constantly outclassed his peers, and while he does not fancy the idea of finding a true equal and has withdrawn himself from society, there are things that still amuse him.

And one of his virtues is that he is hardly an arrogant person. He does not boast, sees no sense in exaggeration, and both gives and takes things as they come. He is not above complimenting his opponents in battle, and recognizes skill and power when he sees it. However, he takes no enjoyment in violence or combat, preferring to avoiding combat and when forced to engage -- ending things quickly. He sees sense in strategic retreats, understands the pointlessness of war, and generally distances himself from conflict in a detached and polite form of disinterest. He has seen enough conflict in his life, and he knows better than to toss himself headfirst into it. The problems of others do not concern him so long as they do not affect the living capacity of his brother.

His bottom most layer lies in his compassion for his brother. Being a man who ultimately chose his brother over his loyalties to the village, he painted himself to be a villain and resigned himself to death by his brother's hands for the sake of his brother's honor. He is a self-sacrificial character, and while he is intelligent enough to be heavily empathetic, he crushes that part of himself for the sake of his continued survival. His place on the battlefield really isn't any place for empathy, really, as he learned from very much early on in his childhood.

Thus, he is grateful that his brother has allies like Naruto who are willing to go that extra mile for his sake.

However, to fool the enemy, he understands that one must first fool his allies. It probably pained him greatly to have to exchange his brother's love for hatred, but it's ultimately for his brother's own good, and he knows this. He goes as far as to pretending to be psychotic in order to drive his brother to the edge, but in the end, everything he did was for his brother's sake. Itachi is the sort of person to devote himself to a single task throughout his lifetime, and its completion would ultimately mean his death. He is almost has a single-track mind when it comes to his brother's safety, seeing as he's destroyed everything he's cared for with his own hands for the sole exception of his brother, and he will bring justice down with a vengeance on anyone who intends on ending that life which he spared so many years ago.

He is a secretive man, however. He is also patient, pragmatic and a realist to the core of his being, finding the fancy flights of imagination to be most unproductive. However, he is idealist in but one thing -- he wishes for peace above all else, and while his methods of attaining that peace is unorthodox, it is what he stands by. And by peace, he does not only mean the end of all conflict, but also the peace of mind. Thus, he enjoys the small details of life -- walks under the moonlight, tea at traditional tea houses, the soft whispering of a creek and stillness of water. While he is a complicated man, he has very simple needs and can be content in simply drifting along aimlessly.

Character Plans:

Eventually, he's going to go blind from the overuse of his Mangekyo Sharingan at Siren's Pull, so that will be a fun thing to deal with. He's long since resigned himself to his fate, but he honestly thought that he would be dead by Sasuke's hands before the inevitable happens. However, getting pulled to Siren's Pull... after his brother has killed him -- that's something that not even he's taken into account.

First Person Sample

[The video flickers on when a stray thumb brushes the side of the mirror. His red eyes scan the small device, as though oblivious -- but the darting of his eye to the small blinking light shows otherwise. Otherwise, he ignores the fact, and continues to scroll with his thumb, uncaring, his red eyes scanning from left to right quickly as though taking in information at a rapid pace.

He probably is. He is curious about this mirror which seems to double as an item of divination. However, another examination seems to show otherwise -- there are messages in the mirror, and snippets of moving pictures, one after the other. A few moments of study reveals them to be the past, one building on top of another.

The mirror is either an item for the divination of the past, or it is a... method of communication. And judging from the tone of some of the addressers, he is inclined to believe it is the latter. His eyes dart imperceptibly, before it settles itself on the blinking light.

A slow exhale.]

I would like to know with whom I am speaking to.

Third Person Sample

He supposed that he should have gotten used to living already. His eyes always opened involuntarily when the sun filtered its shy rays through the blinds of his window, and for a few moments he would lie in bed, staring up at the unfamiliar ceiling and wonder, abstractly, when it became a constant. His eyes easily picked out the small flaws in the ceiling, the places where the paint flaked and the small imperfections with the installation of lighting. The corner where the spider web hung bare, the sharp ridges of uneven paint. He could see the ceiling when he closed his eyes, all the marked imperfections painted onto the back of his eyelids like something sore.

He got up, got dressed, and found himself in the small bathroom the place kept, the mirror stained and cracked and offered a stilted view of the Sharingan staring back him in dim lighting. He finished with his necessities, and found himself in the kitchen, nabbing a fruit of some sort with purpose and walked over to the living room area where his book laid on the table with a single bookmark set into it neatly. It didn't take long for him to settle into his usual routine, delving into the book absently.

When last page had been turned, it was nearly ten in the morning and the sun shone through the open window. He gathered up the books he had left in a neat pile next to the door, and locked the door behind him.

He rarely left the apartment. The only times in which he stepped out of it was of pure necessity, or simply because he had run out of library books to entertain himself with. Eventually, the pedestrians who traversed the path learned to give him a wide berth, and he was relatively fine with this. It helped with his concentration when others were not around. When the path blurred before his eyes, he merely closed them and allowed for his senses to lead him up to the steps of the library.

Sometimes, he thinks that he is reading simply because he knows he will not be able to do so when his eyesight gives out on him. And sometimes, he know he is right.

Getting used to life again was a little peculiar, in hindsight, but it was something necessary and something which would continue to plague him so long as he remained here. The inevitable had no regards for place, only time. He might as well entertained himself before it gets there.
