Connections............
The reason I picked Captain Hook was more because he was called Hook, rather than Jack Sparrow. I would still have bought him if he had been called Jack (coz pirates look so s e x y), but it was Hook's power that pulled me. I have always loved the story of Peter Pan - it's a ghost story and a tale of false innocence with Mrs Darling tidying up her children's minds at night, and Tinkerbell dressed in a skeleton leaf gown cut low to reveal her figure, very naughty.
JM Barrie was connected with the Du Maurier family - the lost boys were inspired by the 5 sons of Sylvia DuMaurier - Daphne's aunt. Daphne's father was an actor/manager and played Hook and Mr Darling on the stage. I love Daphne Du Maurier's books, she was a very good story teller - my favourite book is Frenchman's Creek - pirates again.
This year the film "Neverland" about JM Barrie and Peter Pan will be out. Johnny Depp is Barrie !!! And Dustin Hoffman is also in the film.
Dustin Hoffman has been one of my all times favourite actors ever since The Graduate - and of course he played HOOK. Fantastic film.
Circles within circles - this is why the Custom House Captain Hook had to be mine and I thought I wouldn't be able to get him, and then my CC got bumped up yesterday morning, do I believe in destiny?
Oh and one of my favourite musicians is Kate Bush........
