Extra Texture: I love this picture
I love this picture for lots of reasons - the fabulous knitwear with stripes, collars, pockets and tasselled hat, the motorbikes.....and the cigarettes. I love pictures of knits and fags!! Because you don't see them anymore. *cough* (oh but smokey knitwear is urgh).

This was in the Sunday papers, advertising a new book - "Singled Out: How Two Million Women Survived Without Men After The First World War" by Virginia Nicholson.
I'm interested in buying this, it sounds very interesting. My Great Aunt Jessie never married after losing her sweetheart in WW1, she was the archetypal old lady in the end, living with lots of stray cats.
